A Bit Of A Dreamer!
This website is here to showcase my work, and is the starting point of a journey that is expected to have many twists and turns. I am a bit of a dreamer, so maybe I’m looking too far into the future with this project. But, we can all dream, can’t we.. or am I an idiot?
Douglas Adams: He was a dreamer, a thinker, a speculative philosopher… or, as his wife would have it, an idiot.
Keen To Learn…
I’ve been very interested in photography, from when I picked up my first camera as a child, to right now. I’m a keen amateur wanting to learn more about photography, from composition through to exposure, post-production and more.
Ansel Adams: The herculean task of a photographer is to capture a momentary frame as beautiful in reality, as it would be in a dream.
A Brief Introduction
Down the years (since 1990), I’ve had a number of websites that have usually been devoted to local history. Photography did of course play a part in those websites. However, I’ve never been entirely happy with the direction things were heading, and was always looking for something different to do.
Having written numerous historical pieces down the years, I have decided to include them on this website. It would have been silly to lose them, since they are educational. The old articles can be seen here: History Of Whitehaven. I hope you enjoy learning about the town, and if local – the reminiscing.
In 2013, life was put on the back-burner when I saw a small article in a local newspaper which announced that there was to be a petition launched, which would hopefully change the way politics was carried out in the area. I decided to get involved, but in hindsight I wish I hadn’t. The whole experience consumed my life.
The experience was good in the main, and I did make some really good friends – but bitterness, lies, violence and backstabbing actions from some individuals have soured feelings.
Those living in Copeland, West Cumbria, may have heard of the campaign group I became involved with – Time for Change (T4C) – this was the group that campaigned for a Town Council for Whitehaven, and a Directly Elected Mayor for the Borough. An online archive of this campaign can be seen here.
So, this is where I am today (2016). I have decided to leave the murky world of sickening, dirty politics, after experiencing threats of violence, illegal conduct and so much more. The stories I could tell would leave the hairs standing up on your neck, and send a shudder down your spine. I wish I was kidding!
- Politics in West Cumbria is rotten to the core
Happiest With My Camera In Hand
Those that know me, will know that I’m happiest with a camera in my hand, along with walking in the Lake District countryside. Photography and hiking are a great combination, and you do get to meet some great people from time to time, with similar passions.
What’s with the website address?
The website address I wanted was taken, so I opted for a play on words. Photographs are made up from pixels – the smallest unit of information. It seemed a natural choice for me, to move from picturesque to pixelesque – but I am a bit of a geek… and a proud one at that.
Anyhow.. enough of me rabbiting on. I hope you enjoy my photographs, and please do share them with your friends. Thanks.
